The rustic-modern interior trend is a welcome change from vintage rustic taking a break from the fussiness about aesthetics. Rustic exposed unfinished beams and brick walls with natural wood or stone floors furnished with antique furniture and natural fabrics. That’s a style I enjoy exploring.

Incorporating rustic elements into our homes in a casually sophisticated ways such as using an antique door as a headboard. The key here is the display. Open up the doors so that the two door panels hand on either side of the frame and hang a beautiful iron lantern to complete the design. Simple iron nightstands and a long trunk at the end of the bed with hand woven artisan crafted bed linen. The idea is to be understated. Rustic patina mirrors sit over a long dresser with a contemporary modern chair defines the look.

Salvaged arches make phenomenal floor mirrors mix with plush upholstery, industrial chairs, and lots of vintage white. The reclaimed old door coffee table and fire console give the right amount of texture to an otherwise modernistic room. A bright yellow carved armoire against the white wall gives the pop of color. Rustic furniture mixed with modern functional chairs with clean lines gives the sophisticated edge. Sophisticated design mixes with a rustic white door dining table and leather chairs.

The kitchen is more towards a rustic industrial style with steel framed windows. White paint and granite counters keep the modern edge contrasting with an antique tribal carved Damchia which has been converted into an island making the piece more functional.

Fresh yet worn with the tender love of family get togethers the daybed sits in the corner. Use soft colors in the powder blue and iced violet spectrum and keep the level of distressing on cabinets soft. No curtains on the windows give a feeling of open space

The bathroom vanity is made from old beat up doors sideboard with a granite top and vessel sinks. Pendant lights and plain glass showers with marble tiles wall to wall give the bathroom understated sophisticated modern rustic elegance.

The library has a huge carved antique bone table with white upholstered armchairs and a bench on the other side. Modern bookshelves line the wall which is packed with classics and encyclopedias. The main wall is dedicated to family pictures framed in old carved wood and burnished brass. Nostalgic and vintage yet modern, comfort is the key element in this design.
