Sports Promotional Items Are Difficult to Get Right

Sports a great venue for promotional items, but sports can be easily abused. Just like any particular sport out there, the promotional industry sees a lot of eye roll worthy cliches on a regular basis. The problem with these "tried and true" uses of custom products is that everyone else starts to use them too, and then they immediately become near worthless and a huge waste of money. Let's take a look specifically at football and baseball. Football is the reigning king of broadcast American sports and baseball is a traditional "American pastime" sport. The other sports are important, too, and we can take a look at those later.

Let's take a look at America's pastime, baseball, and what kind of overused promotions are out there. Perhaps because the sport has been around for so long and is one of the iconic American sports, there are tons and tons of baseball related items to choose from. Unfortunately, so many of them don't really have a lot of value as a promotional product and will just end up taking up space in a landfill and wasting money. Consider those little wooden promotional bats you can't miss at the baseball game, as common to every game as the foam bats or foam fingers. They're cute, but is anyone really going to hold on to them? If it was a special occasion, they might be stored in a keepsake box, and then you're advertising to absolutely no one anyway. Despite these drawbacks, little wooden bats are everywhere at the ballgame.

These problems exist with a significant chunk of what you've got to pick from if you're looking for a baseball theme but there is some potential in a few items. There are promotional items that you know have a good chance of staying in front of your customers or clients (or even employees, for internal branding) and those products are what you'd need for a marketing grand slam. Clothing items like promotional baseball caps or baseball shirts are good "walking billboard" opportunities. A potential pitfall with shirts is not having enough shirts of a certain size, and too many of another, so make sure you purchase appropriately. There are also a lot of baseball shaped crystal awards out there, which would be a nice tie in for treating some star salespeople to a trip to a game!

Football is the big televised sport which has been able to market itself so well that you'll find the Thanksgiving games on TV sets at family gatherings all over the country and a very expensive and successful advertising business during the Super Bowl. The promotional products industry has totally noticed all this money flowing around out there and almost all the suppliers I'm aware of have at least a few items with baseball themes.

Just as baseball has the little baby-sized baseball bats and foam fingers, the foam promotional items at the football stadium are even more superabundant. Compared to baseball items, some of the football related promotional items can be really out there! Mouse pads that are baseball shaped are a creative combination of two creative ideas, for example, but might be pretty useless because of the shape unless you increase the size of the pad to the point that it uses an inconvenient amount of desk space. Footballs have the same problem as baseballs, there are very limited circumstances that you'd find a promotional football remaining out in the open and exposing your brand to customers or clients.

So, other than clothing like I'd recommend in baseball, what does football have that counts as good? Consider the tailgating culture that thrives around football, and tap into that! A lot of the products you'd use for camping will apply nicely to tailgaters. A koozie for beer, a cooler for soda and meat, some nice imprinted seating to drink your beer on … you get the idea. Don't forget the grills and any accessories you can think up, as long as you're certain they'll be used. Those items will have a lot more utility than a foam finger and you'll be targeting a fiercely loyal portion of the football audience. If you could successfully make your brand a part of the tailgating experience, you'll also be tapping into that loyalty.

The fans of every sport can be a very loyal bunch that is worth considering in your overall marketing strategy. Tapping into that loyalty can be tricky, since fans can be picky, but if you can pull it off smoothly it'll be like winning the World Series in extra innings! Don't forget the other big sports in America, NASCAR and hockey. They've got their own niches and their own premier promotional products!

Six Things to Consider Before Buying Furniture for the Restaurant

Restaurant furniture is important to the success of any restaurant or hotel. It is furniture that not only serves its function, but it also contributes to the ambience of the establishment. Restaurant furniture design set the tone for the style in the restaurant setting.

A restaurant never fails because of its food, but it fails because of its arrangement of furniture. Thus investing in long-lasting, durable, and practical, as well as eye-catching but affordable restaurant furniture and other furnishing trimmings is a necessity

So before rushing out and purchasing furniture for restaurant take into consideration below mention points to have a proper ambience and setting in the restaurant.

  1. Budget: The first and the foremost thing before choosing any restaurant furniture available for sale is that you need to do is prepare a budget. You will just lose time and effort finding the right furniture you want and end up unable to afford it. Set a budget that you are comfortable and then let the search begin. The furniture that you cannot afford is like having no furniture at all. So make it a point you have the budgeting done right away.
  2. Restaurant Design: When choosing a restaurant furniture it is important to determine where you will be placing it because appeal and functionality should go hand in hand. So it is important to consider the furniture which is beautiful indoor and best for outdoor. If you are going for outdoor furniture, then make sure it move around easily and should be sturdy and able to withstand weather conditions. If you are considering indoor furniture, then go for style and comfortable furniture. The goal of finding unique restaurant furniture should be visually stimulating at the same time functional and affordable. You also have to consider the space of the restaurant in choosing the best furniture.
  3. Comfort: When buying restaurant furniture online it is important to consider the comfort factor. It will not make sense for your customer to have furniture that may look good; but uncomfortable. Ergonomically designed chairs and tables are recommended. Give your customers an attractive appeal with soft vinyl couches near the window. Whether you need a stylish furniture range with modern designs or an upholstered range, your choice should make the restaurant welcoming and beautiful without compromising on comfort.
  4. Size: It is important to buy right sized furniture to have a clean, clutter-free and organised look. A heavy furniture will consume a lot of space of your restaurant, and the cramped space will make it inconvenient for your customers and restaurant staff to move around freely. Thus known the dimensions and accordingly arrange the furniture to optimise space.
  5. Material: Restaurant Furniture for sale are available in an array of material. From wood to plastic all kind of furniture options is available. Wood Furniture always make a good choice as they are easy to clean and require very little maintenance but it may make a restaurant seem ordinary. While glass top tables with metal chairs provide a style to the restaurant. Thus all available options should be considered before making a decision.
  6. Shape: Besides being classy and fashionable, there is one important fact, and that is the shape of a table. Most people love square and rectangular tables, which are best for long rooms where the table corners won’t get in the way. Round tables also make a great addition to the restaurant and are best utilised in closed spaces so as not to take much space and allow more seating. Looking for accommodation, restaurant table bases vary widely, so you need to consider table bases which provide more leg room and which will create a more stable table.

Five Pieces of Furniture and Accessories For a Stunning Vintage-Style Kitchen

The kitchen is fast becoming the centre of any home. But just because it’s at the heart of a modern home, that doesn’t mean the kitchen has to look modern. If you’re not a fan of polished chrome and sanded granite, the chances are that you’ll prefer a vintage, homely feel. So read on for the five pieces that are guaranteed to give your kitchen that all-important retro feel.

It’s all down to consistency. The main aspects of your kitchen all need to give off a retro feel, so that your visitors can overlook the fact that you (by necessity) have a modern washing machine, blender and microwave.

So let’s start with the focal point of the room.

The Centrepiece – An Antique Table

The kitchen table is the focal point of any kitchen, large or small. It’s where guests will congregate, where food will be served and where budding cooks will spend most of their time. Without a table to dominate the space, a kitchen’s no more than a galley for a chef to stand in while they stir a pot.

A good antique or vintage tabs going to be wooden. Oak and pine are traditional, and restored Victorian furniture is widely available and affordable. So pick a restored table and build your theme around it.

The Chef – Vintage Cookery Clothing

The next most important thing in any kitchen is the cook. And when a vintage or retro-style apron or pinny is available for around 20 pounds on the internet, there’s really no reason not to buy one.

A retro apron will cover any modern outfit, ensuring that you don’t commit the horrendous faux pas of being incongruous in your own home…

The Tea Set – Fine Antique China

Crockery can make or break a theme – and nothing says tradition like a fine china tea set. So it’s worth investing in a china tea or coffee set, such as a 13 piece Ridgeway China Tea set and matching china crockery to real sell your kitchen’s image.

Remember not to skimp on quality, because a traditional tea in a vintage kitchen should be all about understated luxury.

The Seating – Vintage Wooden Chairs

The wood on your seating should match the wood of your table. So if you’ve invested in a heavy oak kitchen table, a Victorian oak smoking chair is exactly what you need to keep your theme coherent.

For smaller, lighter tables, why not try a ladder back chair?

The Talking Point – An Antique Conversation Piece

The final thing to tie your room together is a conversation piece. There are dozens of jugs, vases and other eye-catching pieces and valuables from antiques dealers available online, so take the time to look around and choose something that suits your room.

For more stunning examples of restored vintage furniture, use the search engines to find any of the pieces mentioned above, such as a 15 piece Royal Stafford China Coffee set or Garland Cake Stand. You won’t be disappointed if you do!

5 Tips to Keep Your Office Chair Clean

If you are anything like me, then you are bound to spill something on your office chair especially if you are using it 8 hours a day, 40 hours a week. You could just leave the spill and let it stain. Unfortunately with that solution, you will constantly have to look at the stain everyday and will be reminded of that one time you spilled your cup of coffee all over your perfect looking office chair, or that time you ate butterfingers and were too lazy to wash your hands so instead you used your office chair as a napkin. Or perhaps the best solution, you could use one of my five tips I have compiled on how to effectively remove a stain from a chair for a relatively cheap price and what preventative action to take against stains.

Before trying to clean your office chair, it is important to find out what kind of material the chair is made of. Generally chairs have a manufacturers cleanability code found beneath the seat which refers to what material/s the chair is made of. If there is no cleaning instructions, a good rule of thumb to follow is the upholstery is made of at least 50% polyester. Most office chairs are made of synthetic materials (such as polyester). If your chair is made of a leather or vinyl material you will not have to worry as much about cleanliness because those materials do not stain as easily, and most of the time you are able to wipe the spill right off. It is important to prevent stains as they do not fall under manufacturer’s warranties.

Here are our five ways we get rid of stains and prevent them from happening:

  1. Foam Upholstery Cleaner: A general foam upholstery cleaner will clean, deodorize, and freshen soiled fabrics. Woolite is a great product for cleaning chairs and removing bad odors. To use a foam upholstery cleaner, first dampen the fabric with a rag, making sure not to soak the material. Spray the chair with the cleaner, and wipe gently with a clean, damp rag. Blot out the excess moisture with a dry towel and repeat the steps until the chair is clean.
  2. Home made shampoo: A little bit of a cheaper option is making your own home made shampoo alternative. Most stains should come right off if cleaned immediately. A little bit of Dawn dish detergent mixed in a small bowl of warm water, diluted about 20 parts water to 1 part soap. Instead of scrubbing up and down, it is best to apply the shampoo in a blotting, circular motion. Blot up the soap with a clean, but damp rag. Continue rinsing in this method until all the soap has been removed. Pat the area dry with a towel.
  3. To prevent stains on chairs you will be spending a lot of time sitting on it is best to choose a vinyl upholstery option instead of fabric. It may cost a little bit of money to upgrade to this option, but it will save you the hassle of having to clean a fabric office chair . If you do choose a fabric chair, apply Scotch Guard prior to sitting in the chair because it will make it much easier to clean stains when they do occur.
  4. Rug Doctor:If you have a little bit more money to spare on cleaning your office chair, it may be worthwhile to invest in a Rug Doctor which you can find at your local grocery store or Home Depot, especially if you are cleaning multiple chairs in an office setting. It will be cheaper than hiring a steam cleaning company, yet it will give you the same results. Generally Rug Doctors cost anywhere between $25-$40 to rent for 24 hours and come equipped with furniture attachments.
  5. Cleaning Solvent:Cleaning solvents work well on office chairs if you take swift action after the stain has been made. First you will need to apply the cleaning solvent directly to the stain. Use a toothbrush or scrubber to work the paste into the stain. Allow it to sit for about 5-10 minutes. Then come back with a damp cloth towel to buff the stain out. A few good cleaning solvents are Quick and Brite as well as Resolve.

Follow these tips and your office chair will look spotless for year to come!

Baby Boomers in 2017 Oscar Nominated Movies

Older characters in movies have often been stereotyped in insulting and degrading ways. The elderly have been shown as irritable, depressed, slow-witted, lonely, sickly, whiny, rude, horny, and foul-mouthed – as if that's all they had to offer. Cinema has often reflected society's attitudes toward the 50-plus crowd who in real life were often ridiculed or ignored.

But hopefully the times are a-changin ', as Bob Dylan famously sang.

This year, the Academy's Oscar nominees include a notable number of people over 50, including Mel Gibson, for directing Hacksaw Ridge; Jeff Bridges, for Best Supporting Actor in Hell or High Water; Viggo Mortensen, for Best Actor in a Leading Role in Captain Fantastic; Meryl Streep for Best Actress in a Leading Role in Florence Foster Jenkins, and Isabelle Huppert for Best Actress in a Leading Role in Elle.

And they don't happen to fit into the typical stereotypes. Jeff Bridges, 67, stars as a Texas Ranger tracking down a pair of bank-robbing brothers. Viggo Mortensen, 58, plays a father devoted to raising his six kids with a rigorous education that challenges his philosophy about life. Meryl Streep, 67, once again proves older women can still steal scenes front and center. And Isabelle Huppert, 63, plays a woman who turns the tables on her attacker.

Maybe that's a start. Perhaps Hollywood, and society at large, haven't completely forgotten the value of the elderly with their knowledge, life experience, and insight.

As an article in the San Diego Tribune pointed out, we baby boomers "are reinventing society's idea of what it means to grow old. Seniors today carry cell phones, not walkers. They sit on bicycles, not rocking chairs. and checkers have been replaced with jogging, white-water rafting and skiing. Seniors are healthy, vibrant, influential members of our society. "

As the oldest of the 77 million baby boomers approach their 70s, the elderly and their concerns will inevitably be given more attention. As to whether ageism will worsen or get better is a matter of debate.

Erdman Palmore, a professor emeritus at Duke University who has written or edited more than a dozen books on aging, remains fairly optimistic. "One can say unequivocally that older people are getting smarter, richer and healthier as time goes on," Palmore said. "I've dedicated most of my life to combating ageism, and it's tempting for me to see it everywhere … But I have faith that as science progresses, and reasonable people get educated about it, we will come to recognize ageism as the evil it is. "

Is Hollywood slowly adapting to reflect these changes as we baby boomers forge ahead refining the landscape of aging?

Hopefully. The movie industry has been complaining about ageism in Hollywood for a long time. According to CEO JoAnn Jenkins at a movie industry roundtable discussion hosted by Variety, ageism is another diversity issue that Hollywood needs to consider more. "The truth is that 70 percent of the disposable income in this country is in the possession of people 50 and older," Jenkins said. "And 25 percent of people who are moviegoers are people over the age of 50. They are actually putting butts in the seats in the movie theaters. Yet we see across the board that the marketing industry is spending 75 to 80 percent of their dollars focusing on people who are under the age of 30, and mostly young males. "

Jenkin's opinion corresponds with two academic studies that showed 30-somethings were heavily over-represented in movies, 40-somethings did all right, while 50-somethings were significantly under-represented and the over-60s severely so.

Recently Humana invited me to watch and participate online in a panel discussion they sponsored, Over Sixty, Under Estimated: A Healthy Look at the "Silver" Screen at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles that included baby boomer actress Francis Fisher. During the discussion, the panel made a good point. These days, if Hollywood ridiculed an ethnic group, the LGBT community, or the disabled in movies, people would be in an uproar. So why do people quietly tolerate the way movies make fun of older people?

We're not grumpy old codgers cussing up a storm. I'm over 50 and still consider myself an active, vibrant member of society. Let's hope this year Academy nominees proves that Hollywood is catching up with the times.
