Sagua Managu Experience

Its 5:45 in the morning and my child is exactly 12 hours old. As I recline on the couch in room 105 of the Sagua Managu building here in Tamuning I have time to reflect on the events of the past half a day. After what was an extremely brief birthing process- 5 hours of labor (mistaken for a bad case of indigestion) followed by a mere 5 minutes of pushing- I am now able to marvel over the beautiful bouncing baby girl lying in the bassinette next to my wife Erica. It was such a natural process in this peaceful and tranquil setting that I find it hard to believe why- given the choice- anyone would wish to deliver anywhere except Sagua.

In lieu of the antiseptic atmosphere inherent to any large hospital setting Sagua feels more like delivering at home with your best friends and neighbors in attendance. In fact Dr Bordallo, Nurse Mafnas and all the other consummate professionals go out of their way to promote that exact sensation. Post delivery I was even able to walk to the kitchen and make myself a midnight snack while my new family peacefully slumbered in our ornately decorated suite. This is something I’ve done a hundred times in my own home and it adds to the familiarity of our experience.

This is not to say that Sagua is not capable of all the same things of a baby ward found in a larger hospital, quite the contrary. The clinic sports all the same equipment however, they are all portable and are only present in the room when they are needed and are removed after they have served their purpose. This restores the, “in my own family room feel which is extremely comforting”.

On the wall is a framed picture with the saying, “TRUST BIRTH”. Everything about the Sagua experience does just that, from the La Maze classes that empowered my wife making her feel, “yes I can do this”! To the professionalism of the nurses, mid wife’s and Doctors that answered each and every question no matter how silly they sounded. Because of these things as a Chiropractor I enthusiastically endorse Sagua Managu and encourage all pregnant mothers to deliver their babies here.

As I look out our window to see the sun’s rays streak across the sky I couldn’t ask for a more poetic and tranquil scene to welcome my child to her first morning. The rain drizzles down the window pain and I note with some irony the fact that my new daughter’s middle name is Rain. Charloette Raine Borja was born 15 April 2008 at 5:45PM. I’m the happiest dad in the world.

Inventor of the Cherry Picker Dies

The founder of Telsta Corp, Jay Eitel, died on June the 10th, aged 94. Eitel was widely regarded as the mind behind the original cherry picker work platform. He went on to found the Telsta Corporation, developing and producing a variety of powered access machines, including boom lifts and other truck-mounted aerial work platforms.

Eitel came up with the vision for the cherry picker after finding a need for a more effective method of harvesting fruit. As a young man he had worked as a manual fruit picker himself, using just a ladder, and in 1944 the design for a truck-mounted telescopic bucket lift was born.

The original cherry picker design comprised a bucket platform mounted on an extending steel boom. This structure was mounted on a truck and controlled by a single lever. This principle remains in modern cherry pickers and telescopic and articulating boom lifts.

The benefits of boom lifts include a wide range of movement – whereas the platform of a scissor lift can only move vertically, a boom lift can be moved laterally as well as vertically, and even extend up and over obstacles if the boom is articulating.

Shortly after his invention, Eitel founded the Telsta Corporation which went on to design powered access equipment that would be used by many large companies in many different applications, for example the Bell Telephone Company, PG&E, arborists and street light services. Telsta became part of General Cable, which was then incorporated into the American Financial Corporation. Later still, this company became Mobile Tool International and Telstra products are produced by Altec Industries Inc.

During his lifetime, Eitel patented 65 other designs, including the “Lamplighter Lift” which was unique in that it allowed operators to step from the driver’s seat directly onto the work platform.

In later life, Eitel used his passion for engineering to build hot rods, and on a number of occasions was brought in to consult on automotive development and problems with manufacturing in South Korea during the 1980s. Today, his legacy lives on in the popular cherry picker and boom lift aerial work platforms.

Boom Lifts are suitable for a variety of applications, from small compact machines to enormous truck-mounted platforms. Cherry pickers have working heights ranging from approximately 9 metres and 30 metres. This type of boom lift can have an arm that is both telescoping and articulating, providing the widest range of movement possible for an AWP.

Cherry pickers and booms are used in many industries, including construction, aviation, railways, factories, manufacturing, warehouse, facilities management, events, maintenance, repair and even firefighting.

Durability Difference Between Beech Wood And Rubber Wood For Restaurant Chairs

Durability is the ability of any product or thing to survive for longer period of time and not to wear out quickly. When we think of buying wooden chairs for restaurants, we need to get serious on the durability factor. These days, there are lots of cheap restaurant chairs being influx into the market. Their construction and style are similar; however, the quality of raw material is different. Historically, European Beech Wood is the industry standard and has been for the past 30 years. Beech wood offers numerous benefits for wood workers: it’s a heavier and dense wood, it’s easier to work with and it’s color and stain are relatively consistent. Only in the recent few years, rubber wood has made its way into the commercial market. Primarily used in economical home furniture, rubber wood has become increasingly common in the commercial furniture industry because of its lower pricing.

However, rubber wood restaurant chairs fall apart. This is not baloney. Once taken out of its native sub-tropical environment and exported to the US, the wood expands and contracts because of its innate absorption properties, thereby causing the frame to swell and contract and eventually break. Also, much like pine, rubber wood likes to move quite a bit. By moving, it refers to the way the wood likes to bend and twist. Chairs joints are susceptible to this problem.

The way you can tell the difference between rubber wood and beech wood is by its wood grain. Rubber wood has a complete absence of any grain whereas beech wood will have some wood grain. Rubber wood is not a very clear color wood and attempts to color it will result in some yellowish tints. Most of the time you will see rubber wood in some dark color that can mask the coloring. Lastly, wood rubber is lighter than beech wood. On a standard chair, it is about 2 lbs lighter. When you knock on wood, it sounds like your knocking on rubber.

If you are going into the furniture market, you need to give your special attention on the durability factor and should not forget to the furniture seller about the about the materials used to make the chair before purchasing. It is nothing but the material used in making furniture that always matters the most.

Many large restaurant chains use laminate tables because they are cheaper and more durable than solid wood tables. Solid wood tends to warp or level water rings, and will wear down after continuous chemical wears down the top coat.

A Tall Kitchen Cabinet to Make the Most of Vertical Storage Space

Inside the home there are two rooms that may benefit most from a tall cabinet, and they are the bathroom and kitchen (or pantry). It is these two rooms that are perhaps most prone to be short of storage space as well as floor space, so having storage units that tower upwards can be a great benefit. Even with an existing modern bathroom a new tall kitchen cabinet may become necessary or desirable at some stage.

If you already have matching cabinets in the kitchen that are modern and quite recent, and you are happy with them, then adding a tall kitchen cabinet to the set will mean finding a match. The first port of call must be the company that installed the kitchen; that is if you were satisfied with the cabinets and their installation. Failing that a local cabinet maker may come up with a good match, otherwise it will be pot luck trying to find the best match possible.

If your kitchen is not tightly coordinated in color and material then it will be much easier for you to find a tall kitchen cabinet that you are pleased with. You can find them online in a range of colors, styles and prices; similarly in your local hardware stores if you have good sized stores. White, for example, is very easy to match so cabinets such as the Flow Wall range at Shears; you will find many other white cabinets of all sizes in the larger hardware and furniture stores, as well as kitchen showrooms.

Many people still love a traditional wood kitchen even if the styling is modern. Manufacturers of kitchen furniture are well aware of that so again it should be relatively easy to find just what suits you in the way of a tall kitchen cabinet. For example, the Ameriwood Single Door Pantry with old fashioned pine finish will only cost just over $ 200, but has the traditional vintage look. It is constructed of wood particle board and comes with three shelves.

If you prefer and can afford solid wood then there are plenty of solid wood tall kitchen cabinets about. One example is the Home Styles Wood Pantry with Oak Finish, which costs much more at about $ 670. This tall kitchen cabinet has distinctive carvings at top and bottom to give it a vintage look; of course you do need to be sure that it will look right in your own kitchen. It is easy to imagine such a cabinet in a spacious country kitchen.

Ergonomic Chair – Best Tips For Ergonomic Chair Buyers

The terms computer ergonomics and office ergonomics are often used interchangeably; they are usually referring to body-adapted ergonomic chairs, office chairs, stools, desks, keyboards, mice, and so on. The word has become an important part of office terminology. The features of ergonomic chairs and office chairs are listed below.

What you need to look for in an ergonomic chair depends a lot on what you’ll most likely be using the chair for. Ergonomics can be applicable in many work environments including, medical, industrial and laboratory but it’s growing more important than ever in today’s office environment. When buying an ergonomic chair you’ll want to choose a chair that has all the essential features and adjustments you need and still be affordable.

Managers’ chairs frequently have a knee tilt mechanism, which is perfect for any multitasking; it makes it easy to go from computer work to phone conferences. Ergonomic comfort is very important to help keep employees alert. Executive chairs usually have holstered back rests and upholstered arms.

Ergonomic executive office chair or seating, also called managers’ chairs, most often have a higher back and leather or stitched leather upholstery. If you want an industrial chair you’ll want one that has durability for long-lasting use on the manufacturing floor. There are some extra large chairs that are great for security guards because the size of this chair allows for equipment to be worn on the belt and not become hooked on the arms of the chair.

Armrests alleviate pressure on the back but can interfere with some lower desks. Tilt adjustments are preferred by most people to allow for a forward working or reclined posture. Almost all ergonomic task chairs come with a hydraulic seat height adjustment, which is probably the single most important adjustment mechanism on the chair.

Three or four of your fingers should fit between the seat pan’s front edge and the back of the knees. The seat should always extend at least one inch from either side of the hips for optimum comfort because insufficient hip room can make you sit too far forward and not get enough support for the thighs. Adequate lumbar support is the most crucial element of the backrest.

Make sure that the front part of the seat should slope down slightly and allow a fist size gap between the back of the knees and the front edge of the seat pan to reduce pressure at the back of the thighs. The tilt mechanism maintains support as you move and recline; it’s best to have your back slightly reclined while you’re seated at your desk. Inadequate lumbar support places too much pressure on the spine.

You can think of an ergonomic chair purchase as an excellent investment in your health. When shopping, whenever you see the designation ‘ergonomically designed,’ find out if it’s truly ergonomic or just a marketing ploy. Almost every catalog featuring office and laboratory chairs stresses that their products are ‘ergonomically designed’; do some research on the company and brand name because they may not be ergonomic at all.
