The Merriweather Post Pavilion is an ideal outdoor venue found along Route 29 opposite the Columbia Mall, and occupies an area of about 160,000 square metres. The pavilion was initially supposed to serve as a summerhouse for the National Symphony Orchestra, and acquired its name from the heiress of Post Foods, Merriweather Post. This venue was designed by Frank Gehry, architects, and was officially opened to the public in 1967. Since then the Merriweather Post Pavilion has hosted several concerts from award winning musicians and is always abuzz with activity throughout the year. This outdoor amphitheatre, halfway between Washington and Baltimore, can be accessed via Columbia taxi service.

The pavilion can accommodate a total of 19,316 people with a covered seating area of about 5,200 and over 10,000 lawn seats. The amphitheatre hosts a wide range of performances and exhibitions throughout the year, and during the summer it attracts many tourists from the neighbouring towns of Annapolis, Washington, Catonsville, Towson and even Harrisburg. For almost half a century it has showcased performances from a wide range of artists and bands including some of the big names in the music industry such as Roger Daltrey, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Janis Joplin and many others.

With its high seating capacity, the pavilion is a great venue for hosting large-scale events. Ticket pricing is also economical since you are given an option to either purchase a seating ticket in the covered area, lawn area, or standing area. The covered area tickets are the most expensive, followed by the standing area tickets, while the lawn area tickets are the least expensive. All these seating areas have their own unique advantages and disadvantages. For instance, the lawn area tickets may be cheap, but, in the event of poor weather conditions, you will have a difficult time and might not even see anything. The covered area is the most comfortable place to be, but for easy visibility book seats near the stage. The standing area is perfect for those who prefer to get up close and personal.

The amphitheatre is also equipped with state of the art facilities that make use of modern technology. All these facilities, i.e. the three wide video screens and an elaborate lighting scheme are specifically designed to enhance concerts and performances. Patrons relax on the lawn area in between shows and have an opportunity to order from a diverse menu that includes gyros, burritos, and veggie wraps. In addition to these, there are also several other food and alcohol stands each offering different types of food and drink. Although the cost of food and drink is a little high, this is to be expected of such a venue.

If you are new in Columbia and wish to find your way to the Merriweather Post Pavilion quickly, then it is recommended that you use a reliable Columbia taxi service. This is because these Columbia taxi service cabs drivers know the place nicely and will drop you off at a secure parking lot within the pavilion. You won’t have the tension of finding out where to go.
